The Hybrid Edge

Science & Sustainability Inside Every Allswell

Every Allswell mattress is engineered from the inside out — layer by layer — to deliver cooling, support, and durability that all-foam competitors simply cannot match. Here is exactly what you are sleeping on, and why it matters.

What's Inside

A Deconstructed Look at Every Layer

Most mattress brands show you a nice photo and a vague list of materials. We show you exactly what each layer does, and why it was chosen. From the breathable cover to the reinforced base, every component has a purpose.

01

Quilted Cooling Cover

The outermost layer is a breathable, moisture-wicking knit fabric quilted with soft fill. It draws heat away from the body surface immediately on contact, keeping the sleep environment cool and dry throughout the night. Some models feature a charcoal-infused cover for added odor neutralization.

02

Copper-Infused Memory Foam

Directly beneath the cover sits a layer of CertiPUR-US® certified memory foam infused with copper particles. Copper is a natural antimicrobial agent and an excellent thermal conductor — it pulls heat away from the foam itself, preventing the heat-trapping effect that plagues traditional memory foam mattresses.

03

Charcoal-Infused Transition Foam

This intermediate layer acts as a bridge between the soft comfort zone above and the firmer support core below. Activated charcoal particles are woven into the foam to absorb moisture and reduce odors naturally, while the slightly firmer density prevents the "sinking" sensation that can strain the lumbar spine.

04

Individually Wrapped Coil System

The heart of every Allswell hybrid is a core of individually wrapped pocketed coils. Unlike traditional Bonnell or offset coils that are connected and move together, each pocketed coil compresses and extends independently. This means the coils contour to body shape, minimize motion transfer between sleep partners, and provide targeted support zone by zone.

05

Reinforced Edge Support

The perimeter of the coil system is reinforced with a high-density foam encasement. This stabilizes the edge of the mattress so sleepers can use the full surface area without feeling like they might roll off. It also means the mattress retains its shape and structure over years of use — a common failure point in budget all-foam alternatives.

The Hybrid Advantage

Why Hybrid Beats All-Foam & Innerspring

A hybrid mattress combines the best properties of two technologies: the pressure-relieving contouring of memory foam, and the breathable, responsive support of a coil system. Compared side by side, hybrids consistently outperform both all-foam and traditional innerspring mattresses across every major sleep performance category.

Safety & Sustainability

What We Leave Out Is Just as Important

Allswell foams are rigorously tested and independently certified to ensure they are free of harmful substances. Sleep is supposed to restore your body — not expose it to chemicals. That's why every foam layer meets the industry's strictest safety and environmental standards before it ever goes into a mattress.

CertiPUR-US® Certified

Every foam layer in every Allswell mattress is CertiPUR-US® certified. This independent certification program tests foam for harmful chemicals including ozone depleters, heavy metals like mercury and lead, formaldehyde, phthalates, and flame retardants. CertiPUR-US® certified foams are made without these substances and have low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions for indoor air quality.

Eco-Conscious Materials

Allswell's eco-friendly product lines incorporate GOTS-certified organic cotton in the cover fabric. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria. These covers are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers and processed without toxic dyes.

Low VOC Emissions

All Allswell foams meet strict standards for low VOC off-gassing. When a new mattress is first unboxed, it may emit a faint odor as compressed air and trace compounds are released — a process called off-gassing. CertiPUR-US® tested foams minimize this significantly, and any remaining scent typically dissipates within 24–48 hours in a well-ventilated room.

Bed-in-a-Box

A Full Hybrid Mattress. Delivered to Your Door.

Getting a premium hybrid mattress used to mean scheduling a delivery truck, coordinating movers, and hoping it fit through your hallway. Allswell's bed-in-a-box technology changes all of that. The same hybrid mattress — coils, foam layers, and all — arrives in a compact box you can carry yourself.

01

Compressed & Rolled

Your full hybrid mattress — coils and all — is compressed under thousands of pounds of pressure using industrial rollers. It is then tightly rolled and vacuum-sealed in a protective plastic sleeve.

02

Boxed & Shipped

The rolled mattress is placed into a compact cardboard box, typically around 20 inches in diameter. This dramatically reduces shipping volume and cost, and makes it possible to deliver a king-size mattress in a box small enough to fit in most elevators.

03

Carry It In

The compact box is light enough for one person to carry from the front door to the bedroom without professional help. No truck deliveries, no awkward staircase maneuvering with a full-size mattress.

04

Unbox & Expand

Remove the mattress from the box, place it on your bed frame, and cut away the plastic wrap. The mattress begins expanding immediately and reaches its full loft within 4–8 hours. It is ready to sleep on the same night.

In Depth

The Complete Guide to Allswell Mattress Technology

When evaluating any hybrid mattress, the two questions that matter most are: what type of coils are used, and how are the foam layers constructed? These two factors determine the majority of a mattress's performance characteristics — from how well it isolates motion to how long it will last before sagging.

Allswell uses individually pocketed coils in every model. This is the same coil technology found in mattresses that retail for two or three times the price. Pocketed coils are sewn into individual fabric pockets, which means they respond to pressure independently rather than as a connected grid. The result is a mattress that contours to each person's unique body shape and weight distribution, rather than responding to average body dimensions the way a fixed-grid coil system does.

The foam layers above the coil core are equally important. Memory foam, in its traditional form, has two well-documented problems: it retains heat, and it can create a "stuck" feeling that makes it difficult to move or reposition. Allswell addresses both problems through infusions. Copper-infused memory foam conducts heat away from the body — copper is 400 times more thermally conductive than standard polyurethane foam. Charcoal-infused foam in the transition layer simultaneously absorbs excess moisture and eliminates odors, keeping the mattress fresh for years without the use of chemical deodorizers.

The CertiPUR-US® certification program is the gold standard for foam safety in North America. Foams that carry this certification have been tested by accredited independent laboratories for a comprehensive range of harmful substances including ozone-depleting chemicals, PBDE flame retardants, TDCPP or TCEP flame retardants, mercury, lead, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. The certification also establishes maximum acceptable levels for VOC emissions. For sleepers who are sensitive to chemical off-gassing, or who simply want to know they are not sleeping on a toxic surface, CertiPUR-US® certification provides meaningful assurance.

The bed-in-a-box shipping method is now so common that it is easy to take for granted. But it represents a genuine engineering achievement. Compressing a hybrid mattress — which contains a dense coil core — to a fraction of its expanded size requires specialized industrial equipment and precision foam engineering. The foams must be engineered to fully recover their original shape and loft after compression without losing density or support characteristics. Allswell's foams are formulated specifically to meet this recovery requirement, which is verified through durability testing before any product reaches consumers.
